  2015: Energy Recovery System (ERS)
ERS replaces KERS and is only available for Experts.

Short description:
- Capacity: 100% equal 20 points
- Available right from the 1st race (charge 0%, value 0 Mio)
- ERS points are limited by engine points
- ERS can be replaced 3 times per season (costs 1 Mio for 5 points)
- Every additional replacement leads to –15 penalty points
- Replacement means that the old ERS is replaced by a new one (remaining points in the old ERS get lost)
- Limited life period: 6 races, after that ERS does not work anymore (points get lost)
- A defective ERS causes a –10 points penalty per race
- The Overtake Button can be used once per ERS replacement
- Overtake Button: (Engine points / 3) + 5 points (ERS must be charged)

Why is ERS much more complicated than the old KERS?
In reality complex hybrid engines have been use since the beginning of season 2014. The driver only has limited influence on the ERS unit (controlled by software). ERS is fully integrated in the power train. PFRL has tried to adapt this feature to the new situation.

Why doesn't ERS work anymore after 6 races?
In reality the usage of certain components is limited. Penalties are imposed, if more components are needed. PFRL has integrated this in the ERS feature.

Conclusion:
ERS should be a new challenge for the expert playing ability. ERS is not a simple points provider anymore, on the contrary to the old KERS. PFRL has tried to develop the feature quite close to the reality.

Important:
Everyone who wants to play this season as an expert, has to make the decision prior to race 1. After that, a change to the expert playing ability is not possible anymore because of tactical reasons!

Overtake button
You'll get the overtake button feature when you replace your ERS unit for the first time. A new ERS unit costs you 1 Mio. That is the investment.

Always when you buy a new ERS unit you'll get another overtake button opportunity for one race of your choice.

Overtake button
I assume the 1 million does not reduce team budget.
I don't see an option "invest 1 million for overtake" what am I missing?

Overtake button
You have to invest at least 1 Mio. in your ERS unit to activate the overtake button feature.
A minimum charge is not required, but the efficiency depends on the selected engine component and the available ERS charge.
The overtake button can be used once per invested 1 Mio.

Overtake button
Is the overtake available on the first ERS or only on each replacement ERS?
Is there a minimum charge required in the ERS for overtake to be available?

Thanks for a great comp.

'ERS not in use'
'ERS not in use' only means that you don't charge or discharge it (= don't use it). You won't loose any points because of ERS. It's the 4th race now. The life time of your ERS unit is 7 races. So nothing really happens, everything is fine.

From race 4 on only 3 team changes are possible.

"Defective ERS" =! (?) ERS not in use ?
I had one of those wonderful genius brain mindfarts where I lost internet for a while and was afraid I would not be able to make picks, was overjoyed that internet came back on, and did not realize the clock was already fifteen minutes til pick time was in because it was stuck at "one hour thirty minutes".

Anyway.... I missed picks. Long story short, does having "ERS NOT IN USE" mean I have a defective ERS? Or is that just caused by not actually purchasing a new one after six races? Also I presume the chance for five changes completely disappears.

This is all on me, just curious about what all I have done to myself and my leagues with this disaster.

Thanks!

No problem.

2 points are the minimum for the ERS recharge process. That means –1 point for the current race score and 2 additional points for the ERS charge.
In order to charge this 2 points, your engine component has to score at least 5 points ( 5 / 3 = 1,67 -> 2 pts.).
You cannot recharge your ERS with an engine score below 5 points.

In order to discharge ERS with 1 point, your engine component must score at least 2 points (2 / 3 = 0,67 -> 1 pt.)

another question
Sorry for all the questions, but I like to get all this understood before we get underway. In the ERS explanation it states:

"Charge:
An ERS unit is able to charge up to 20 points (100%). ERS can be discharged or recharged in a race. 1 additional point is awarded per recharging process in a race."

Does the "1 additional point" mean that in a weird situation where our engine component scores 0 points we still get a point for being in recharge mode?

As ever, thanks ~ KvS.

2015: Energy Recovery System (ERS)
Are my ERS settings visible to everybody prior to the race?

Only the general ERS status is visible:
- Not in use
- Recharge in the race
- Discharge in the race

But nobody can see how many points you want to charge or discharge. It is not visible when you choose the Overtake Button.
